Civil Code 1927

Tenant's Pursuit of Quiet Enjoyment

eviction

This past Tuesday (May 1,2018) the California Assembly Judiciary Committee approved legislation bill AB 2925 in a 6-3 vote. AB 2925 was introduced by Assembly member Rob Bonta (Oakland) as a way to protect tenants from unjustified evictions, an issue that many tenants and tenant advocates are familiar with.

Currently California law permits landlords to serve eviction notices to their tenants without providing any cause to eviction. Unjustified evictions are more common when a piece of property changes owners, or sometimes used as retaliation towards tenants who assert their rights.

AB 2925 will now be heading towards a full assembly vote later this month. If passed AB 2925 would require landlords to provide a just cause when issuing eviction notices to tenants.
