Oakland tentants should be aware of a new law that provides financial relief from landlords who evict them through no fault of their own.

The Oakland City Council has passed the Uniform Relocation Ordinance, which requires relocation payments to tenants when they are evicted because their landlord decides to move in or have a family member move into the tenants unit.
While I have not read the final language of the ordinance, the relocation fees are expected to start at $6,500.00 based on the original proposal.
While the owner move-in laws need to be addressed, this new ordinance provides additional remedies to Oakland tenants.
